Character Typography Print
For this assignment we will be looking at the designer Pete Ware. Ware uses figures and characters from pop culture and then using a popular quote or saying, essentially "builds" the character with words.
For our first print we used positive/space to help identify shape, and then in class we learned about typography and specific typefaces. Now it's time to combine the two.
For this assignment, first find a popular character from pop culture. Be sure the outline is recognizable. Find the quote or saying and begin to carefully plan out where you want it to go. The letters should become a part of the person not just fill the space.
You may in no way use a design from Pete Ware as it is copyright infringement, stealing, and cheating. We are learning from Pete Ware as an educational tool. Don't steal a design he has already made!
Be original.
The choice is your what you want to carve. You can either carve the letters out and ink around everything else, or you can carve around everything and ink the letters. Carve less, ink more, or carve more, ink less. It's up to you.
Also, the press will be in use from here on out and I'll demo it later.
After drawing out how you want it be sure to reverse it so it will print correctly.
