Saul Bass Movie Posters
Students are going to pick a movie, not a TV show, not a video game, not a song, but a movie, and then recreate it in the style of Saul Bass. He would use paper cut outs to make the movie posters and also use few colors.
The assignment is not about the drawing skills but about the design skills. Students should use color to their advantage, have the plot of the movie incorporated into their design, and use text as part of their design as well so the poster is harmonious. In no way are students to take an already made image and reproduce it. The work needs to be 100 percent original. Anything but that will result in a failing grade. Below are examples from Saul Bass and works
inspired by him.
Criteria for your own Saul Bass Poster:
-14"x22"
-Movie Title
-Design that is in line with the movie's plot/theme/style
-Text that matches the theme
-Saul Bass paper cut shape style
-4 color max (exceptions are made upon approval)
-Color choices follow Saul Bass' style
