Thursday, March 22, 2018 --
Today is the last in class day to work on the travel poster as it is due next time. If you need to take home watercolors, then please do so. They will be turned in first thing next period.

Travel Poster was turned in today. We took a baseline review for the State Skills Exam. It is on April 24th. Please don't miss it. The week before the test (that being the week of April 16th, we will be putting aside our current assignment and we will be studying for the exam).
Wednesday, March 28, 2018 --
Finished correcting the review. Introduced the new assignment -- Playing Card. More information is on the assignment page. Gave some examples and let students brainstorm ideas. Nothing too strenuous before Spring Break as I knew nothing would really stick, but I wanted to give your mind something to think about. We will be working on this assignment off and on as we study for our exam. The Playing Card Assignment is due on April 30th.
Friday, March 30, 2018 --

Wednesday, January 3, 2018. --
Today in class we discussed the disclosure, procedures, took a "tour" of the classroom, and talked about behavior and dispositions. The disclosure needs to be signed and turned in on January 9th.
Friday, January 5, 2018 --
Made portfolios and had a fun activity about the creative process.
Tuesday, January 8, 2018 --
Went over drawing basics (gesture drawing, light logic,).
Thursday, January 11, 2018 --
Today in class we handed out notebooks, took notes on elements on principles, talked about the 4 ways to show depth, and then practiced how to show depth with drawing cubes in space.
Tuesday, January 16, 2018 --
Today in class we watched "Papyrus" and discussed out type needs to fit the image, looked at comic sans and talked about why it is a horrible typeface. After that, we went over the first assignment: Saul Bass Posters. Students are going to pick a movie, not a TV show, not a video game, not a song, but a movie, and then recreate it in the style of Saul Bass. He would use paper cut outs to make the movie posters and few colors. The assignment is not about the drawing skills but about the design skills. Students should use color to their advantage, have the plot of the movie incorporated into their design, and use text as part of their design as well so the poster is harmonious. Check out the assignment page for further information about the project.
Thursday, January 18, 2018 --
Today in class we reviewed what makes good thumbnail sketches and what makes good color roughs. Students then began drawing 3-4 thumbnails of the movie they chose on an 8x10 sheet paper. After they completed their thumbnails, they checked them off, and then started on their color rough.
Monday, January 22, 2018--
Today in class students finished with their thumbnails and started on their color rough. Next time their color roughs should be complete.
Wednesday, January 24, 2018--
Today in class students finished their color roughs and began building their paper cutout posters. They were instructed to first cut out their shapes, figure out placement on their poster, and then when happy with their placement, begin gluing. This of course, was not done all in day, and students just start with the cutting out process for today.
Friday, January 26, 2018 --
Today in class students were all cutting out their shapes and letters for their posters. They will have next time to work on them as well. They are due on Thursday, Feb 1st.
Tuesday, January 30, 2018 --
Worked on Saul Bass posters. Today I was not in class due to a meeting and but on the board I wrote a note saying I would decide if more time would be needed next class period.
Thursday, February 1, 2018 --
Today I asked how many students were completely done with their posters and only a few were. So, the Saul Bass poster due date is moved to Monday the 5th. That means that today is the last day to work on them in class, but if you're not done you have the weekend to work on it. There will be NO time to work on them in class on Monday. If you missed today you can come in tomorrow (Friday) and get some materials (excluding X-Acto knives). However, it won't look so good for you coming in on Monday and not having it done, because I'm going to ask if you read the website and if you didn't, I probably won't show pity on you (because you're supposed to the website). If you did read the website, then you would know what you should have done to get your work done. After Monday, the Saul Bass Posters are considered late. Also, today in class I showed how to fill out a critique, and then for the rest of the period students completed their Saul Bass Poster. After they completed their poster and filled out the critique, they independently took notes on the Typography Powerpoint. Saul Bass Posters ARE DUE ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH.
Monday, February 5, 2018 --
Turned in Saul Posters (which were awesome, by the way). The class then took notes on typography (if you took these note previously then you had the opportunity to chill). After that there was a preview of the next assignment, "Enlarge a Letter."
Wednesday, February 7, 2018 --
Today in the beginning of class, there was a demo on how to properly enlarge a letter. I talked about the grid system and how to grid their letter (use light lines) to the poster paper they would be transferring their letter on to. After that, students picked their letter out of a hat and began the grid and transfer process. When you are done with the transferring process I will check it off.
Friday, February 9, 2018 --
Worked on Enlarge a Letter Project.
Tuesday, February 13, 2018 --
Worked on Enlarge a Letter Project. This project is due on February 20th.
Thursday, February 15, 2018 --
Today while working on the Enlarge a Letter Project I feel some students might have misunderstood one of the criteria for the assignment. Part of this is about craftsmanship and it was clearly explained that if you had paint splotches or your lines weren't clean then you needed to restart. It's a not a bad thing, it's a learning experience. With that being said, many students needed to restart and the project due date was pushed back to the 22nd. However, we will be going over new material on the 20th. You will need to finish your poster on your own time. This is lesson isn't just about painting a huge letter, it's about putting in quality effort, doing the job right instead of just doing the job.
Tuesday, February 20, 2018 --
Today we discussed color theory and took notes. If you were not here then please review the Color Theory Powerpoint and enter the notes in your notebook. We also briefly discussed color usage in marketing and why it is so important to to know your audience. For the last couple of minutes we started the color wheel (just with filling out the responses). Next time we will paint everything in. Also the Enlarge a Letter Assignment is due next time. Most of the students are done, so if you are not then you need to finish it on your own time as there was no time in class to work on it.
Thursday, February 22, 2018--
Today we filled in the Color Theory Handout and turned in the Enlarge a Letter Assignment. The assignment was already extended so if it's late, it's late.
