Today in class we went over "backwards" thinking in printmaking. Went over the tools used for carving a piece of linoleum. After that, we started carving our "stamp." Each student was given an eraser and a small piece of paper. They designed their initials in a creative way and then following the proper backward procedures started to carve their initials out of the eraser. After students were done they inked up their stamp and stamped it on a sheet of paper and checked it off. Some students did not complete this and will be given just a little bit of time next class period to complete the stamp, however, we are moving on so it will not be the only thing we are doing next period.
Tuesday, January 9, 2018 --
Today in class we finished carving our stamps and stamped them. If you didn't finish doing that, then you need to get that done. Next we went over how to pull a print correctly and then how to clean up after pulling a print. The process is long but it is vital in the class and needs to be done correctly. After the demo, each student was given a small piece of linoleum and we went over carving techniques and safety. Next time we will be introducing our first assignment.

Today in class we went over the requirements for our first linocut project and showed good and bad examples of the assignment. Requirements for the project can be found under "assignments" on this website. We also began brainstorming and drawing out ideas for our projects on 8 x 10 pieces of paper which we will use to begin carving into our linoleum in the next couple of class periods. We will have next class period to work on the designs as well.
