What You Missed...
TERM 1
August 21, 2018 --
Disclosure stuff,
August 23, 2018 --
Color Mixing 101.
August 27, 2018 --
Went over different brush techniques (drybrush, wet-on-wet, scumbling, palette knife, and blending).
August 29, 2018 --
Today in class we looked at one of the many ways to draw accurately: the grid method. We will also be measuring in this class but that will be covered later. We practiced gridding an image with a double ratio.
After we introduced our first assignment, the food project. Find a high quality image of a food you like. DON'T FIND A MEAL, FIND A FOOD. For example, if you like cheeseburgers, find a high quality (1000 pixels x 1000 pixels) of a cheeseburger, not a cheeseburger with fries and a drink. I will format it to an 8x10" as it will be painted on an 8x10" canvas.
August 31, 2018 --
Today in class students printed out their food picture they are going to paint and gridded their 8"x10" canvas.
September 5, 2018 --
Students drew their food out on their canvas. When they were done with that they blocked out their color (blocking out is applying almost a light wash in a base color). After blocking out students then began to block in colors with a more solid color and would mix tones. Details are added last. The point of this assignment, however, is to focus on an intricate and interesting part of the food in the image and paint that really well. It is not to paint the whole food just ok.
September 7, 2018 --
Worked on the food painting. There will be a critique for this painting on September 25th. That gives you only 5 more I class days to work on it.
September 11, 2018 --
Continued working on the food painting. Don't forget there is a critique on Monday, September 25th.
